The Idea of the Right governing from Canada was conceived by a group of US residents, many of them wives of Corporate CEOs, because the extreme Right could not see any hope of becoming the Neo Fascist rulers of the US. Calgary was built by oil interests. Canada is ruled from the Petroleum Club in Calgary. The Stampede was invented by an American. The wagon races, the hats, the show horses and barrel racing are all purely theatre, purely invented and in no way indigenous, and akin to the fantasy that was the hallmark of Disney, himself a Right wing neo nazi who beat the drum for racism.
When they built Calgary, the US cowboys of fantasy land wove into it the primary and unmistakable American characteristic of Jingoism, Boosterism, cheering and screaming and drowning out discussion in shouts of flag waving cries of a new flood of Patriotism. Jingoism is a form of Imperial nationalism which says “my country right or wrong; my country is the best; no other country compares or competes”. Not even a Victorian at the height of Empire could have imagined such Patriotic hysteria and stridency as Dickens found on his first visit to America and recorded in Martin Chuzzlewit. The Culture of the US has committed itself to a fantasy life. The life of Fantasy is a death sentence for Humanity and the natural world that sustains us.
