So now we have a new Federal Office of Religious Freedom courtesy of Harperism. Here are some examples of Religious Freedom that I have witnessed personally. In the market of Beersheba an arab trader comes to sell goods and he brings his five wives with him. While he sits and bargains the wives are left with the camels, sitting on the ground dressed from head to toe in black as the heat grows from 6:00 am till 1:00 p.m, no water break, washroom break, they cannot move. They believe in Allah I think and they believe that their husband is the mini allah in their lives. They are possessions just like the camels. This situation is entirely due to freedom of religion.
I am practising Psychotherapy in Haileybury Ont. and my client/patient is a Roman Catholic woman who tells me she went to see her priest because her husband was violently abusing her and she wanted to leave him. The priest said that they were married in the sight of god and she could not leave and must return home to the husband. This is due to the freedom of religion which Harper supports. The priest is free to impose this sentence on a woman rendered helpless by being already brain-washed from birth. A woman told that her human, her civil rights are null and void in the face of dogma, where the priest writes her laws. How did I become so misinformed as to think that I lived in a country where State and Church had separated? And just in case we were getting to close to this reality we have Harperism leaping to the defense of Churches, no matter what horrors they are free to perpetrate.
I think from what I have learned that no one invention of the species has been more responsible than institutions of religion in causing human suffering.
Religions are stories created by humans who also invent the gods they need to empower themselves to control other people. What we really need is an Office of Freedom from Religion. When will this come?
