Before national governments there were War Lords with huge private armies who helped these war lords get rich by conquering and stealing. Some were biggies like Ghengis Kahn or Tammerlaine and some were small like the many who gangs who had private armies in Afghanistan. Then there were democratic governments who won by election. These elections can be won by the rich and then we have elected governments helping the rich and the Corporations get more rich. Now it is harder than ever for the not rich, the 99%, to get enough to survive, pay the rents, the taxes, the advertising costs built into cost of product, like oil, cars, wood, and steel.
