Yesterday on CBC Power and Politics, Minister Van Loan answered a question from Evan Solomon: What do you say to the Native demand for the rescinding of Omnibus Bills that strip away protection for Canada’s waters under the elimination of the Navigable Waters act?
The answer: This does not make sense because by making resource development easier First Nations will get more money. (this is not an exact quote).
So now we can all be clear. Under Harperism resource Industry is having its path cleared. Profit comes before Health, Sustainability, Food supply, Treaties, and planetary survival. This is not only an outright opposition to First Nation Priorities it is the precise contrary to First Nation values. The God that Residential Schools claimed to be selling turns out to be Mammon or the God of Money after all. The story about Midas is that he made a wish that everything he touched should turn to gold, and this wish was granted. Then his daughter, his food, his bedclothes and his water all of these turned to gold. Way to go, government!
